The American Cemetery at Madingley, just to the north of Cambridge was opened on 7th December 1943. It is the only American burial ground in England which is dedicated to the servicemen who fought in World War Two. There are 3,800 white crosses and the Portland stone wall is inscribed with 5,000 names.
