The pink sows on Farrowby farm are mainly cross breeds between a breed known as �Large White� mixed with one of the following breeds �British Lop�, �Saddleback�, �Gloucestershire� or Berkshire. The reason for crossing the pigs is to produce the best meat. However the pink pig with the floppy ears is a pedigree (pigs that are of pure breed and not crosses), it is a breed known as 'British Lop'. Notches in the ears of pigs are used to identify pedigree pigs. The notches identify the pedigree and the herd. Picture taken at Farrowby Farm, Hertfordshire on 15th January 2007.
