On 25 October 1821 Hiram Bickerdike, laborer, aged about 41 of Stretham, Isle of Ely, was examined by two Justices of the Peace to determine where his place of settlement was. His father, now dead, was a 'travelling Irishman' and his mother was born Susannah Stacey. He had married his wife Sarah in Heydon, Essex and they have three children aged between 9 and 4. Hiram made his mark.
