The Aliens Restriction Act was rushed through Parliament the day after war was declared in 1914. This is a claim dated 31 March 1916 in respect of grants to the British-born wives and children of three interned German and Austrian men, enemy Aliens, during World War 1. The men were interned in concentration camps in Wakefield, the Isle of Man and County Meath, Ireland. Their wives are all living in Cambridge. Note how long the men had been interned.
