At the museum there is a World War 2 homelife display. It shows many items from the Second World War. Due to everything being in short supply families had to mend their belongings if they became damaged. This wooden mushroom was used inside socks so they could be easily darned. Darning is a way of mending cloth using interwoven stitches.
