People had to put money into the slot to make a phone call, if the person didn't answer, you would have to press button "B" to get your money back, if they were there, you would press button "A" and the money would drop into the box. This type of back board and coin box was rented for installation in public houses and hall ways, originally designed by the Hal telephone accessories Company Ltd around 1930, the design remained the same for over 30 ears, only replacing the Tulip Mouthpiece and butter stamp receiver with the Neophone desk set 232 (Item shown).In the museum we can demonstrate this item.
