Newmarket Cemetery, Suffolk contains many graves of members of the Polish forces who fought with the allies in World War 2. An evacuee in Newmarket during the war recalled "a number of Polish soldiers being based for a while in Newmarket - and seeing several Polish officers meeting some girls in the High Street and turning on the 'charm' - salutes, clicking of heels, bowing AND kissing hands; and the Yanks were yet to arrive - what chance did our lads stand?!"
