During the Victorian times young girls aged between 5 & 11 produced samplers to teach them needlework skills; later they were used to teach literacy and numeracy skills.

The aim of this project is for children to learn what life was like for children in the Victorian period (unit 11) by designing and embroidering their own sampler. Pupils used the sampler from the Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society collection cared for by Dacorum Heritage Trust to learn why and how they were made the significance of the designs and their historical significance.

Children plot their design, using cross stitch patterns, on graph paper before moving onto the canvas.
