The bed dates from around 1785 and is hung in cotton dimity copied from an 18th century sample. By the end of the 18th century cotton fabrics were repalcing wools and silks in fasionable houses. They had the advantage of being easily washabl and were neat. The hanging are based on a design by Hepplewhite with gathered valances.
