Much of the cooking is done over an open fire. The closed range has only just been invented. The meat was roasted on spits turned by gravity-driven spit mechanism. Potatoes and vegtables were cooked over the open fire. Above the fire is a boot shaped ale warmer of muller. With thanks to 'The Georgian House Museum', 7 Great George Street, Bristol, BS1 5RR.
