This vase shows enslaved people making a rope twist of tobacco on a plantation. In the 18th century the price of tobacco had decreased and all ranks of society, even farm labourers could afford to smoke it. Bristol was one port that was an important centre for tobacco processing. With thanks to 'The Georgian House', Bristol.
