Rum was made from Molasses, which is a by-product from the sugar making process. It was made by enslaved people on the West Indian Plantations and became a major British Import, important for Bristol. Rum was drunk with hot water or mixed with fruit and spices in punch. It was also a Navy issue, mixed with lemon juice and known as 'grog' it was issued to sailors on a twice daily basis. With thanks to 'The Georgian House', Bristol.
