John Pinney, the one time owner of this House and bath, used a Cold Bath Plunge Pool well into middle age. Whilst an apprentice in London he wrote in October 1760: "I now subscribe to a cold bath and goes in every morning which I finds to be of great service to me." Unlike our modern baths, the plunge bath is very deep and has steps leading into it.
