Food storage was a risky business. Various preservation methods were used such as marinading, slating, smoking, potting and pickling. Recipes also suggested ways of disguising Strong meat that has been hung a little too long. Some states also had ice houses. The larder or pantry was an area where food could be kept and checked to help kept to ensure they were fresh. With thanks to 'The Georgian House Museum', 7 Great George Street, Bristol, BS1 5RR.
