Found in tropical rainforests and mangroves of Central America and northern South America.
They are solid scarlet except for black wing tips and the bill is long, thin and curved downward. The neck is long and slender, the legs are also long and thin with partially webbed feet.
They eat shrimp, crabs, various crustaceans, mollusks, and insects.
