Landguard Point (formerly known as Langer Point) stands to the east of the town of Felixstowe and right next to one of Europe's busiest shipping terminals. Its history as a military and peacetime port goes back many centuries and there are signs of the major part it has played in conflicts all over the point. There has been a fortification of some kind here since 1626 and it remained a working military installation until 1956. It is now a listed building.
