This tree is native to Iran but can occasionally be found planted in parks and other large open spaces. It is a very large striking tree. It has green alternate leaves that can grow to over 60cm (2ft) long and that turn yellow in autumn. In the summer, it produces long chains green catkins. These can grow up 60cm (2ft) long. In likes a moist, almost boggy, soil and plenty of light. Here it is growing in the priory grounds at Bury St Edmunds near to the river. Picture taken 13th August 2008.
