The church of St Mary's Mildenhall in Suffolk stands in a small churchyard fronting the High Street. The east window is about three metres from the road. In his book England's Thousand Best Churches Simon Jenkins describes it as being one of England's most remarkable decorated east windows. Seven lights graduated in width rise to a large cusped oval. The two outer lights continue over the head as quatrefoils. The window is dated as early 14th Century and therefore is almost certainly due to Richard de Wichford who was vicar from 1309-1344. His ledger stone lies next to the vestry door on the north side of the chancel. The translation of the inscription reads "Here lies Richard de Wichford formerly vicar of Mildenhall who made this new work."
