Reg:

“Soon after arriving I had to start school at St. Audrey’s, Hatfield, which used to be in School Lane near the police station. Every morning the boy next door and I would walk to Mill Green, then across the fields (where the Ryde housing estate now is), on to North Road, over the railway bridge and to the school. This was about a mile. After school in the evenings we would walk back to the cottages.”
