A common flower of cultivated land. It flowers July to September with white star shaped flowers with yellow centres. The fruits are green when young, ripening to black. Like Bittersweet it contain the poisonous alkaloid -solanine. However its Latin name Solanum comes from the word 'solice' and is a reference to the former use of the plant's leaves as a compress to ease burns and boils.
