In mound 17, a warrior and his horse were found by archaeologists. This picture shows what the warrior may have looked like. Warriors were loyal companions in the hall, received protection, gifts and hospitality. Their bond was to defend the lord to the death. It was believed better to die in honour than to be exiled, lonely and friendless.
