Cecil Rhodes was one of Queen Victoria’s biggest empire builders. He travelled to Africa at the age of seventeen. After cotton farming proved uneconomical, he profited from diamond and gold mining. His mining companies were the richest in the world and he enjoyed huge personal health.
At middle age he was involved in the politics of Southern Africa, and went on to become Prime Minister of Cape Colony with control of its territories.
