This picture was taken at Foxholes farm in Hertfordshire. Each cow at the farm usually has just one calf a year, occasionally there are twins born but these tend to be smaller and weaker. Calves are reared naturally on their mothers for eight months and then graze the Hertfordshire pastures.
The animals are kept for two years before they go for slaughter. The farmer keeps them as near to thirty months as possible. Picture taken 23rd February 2007.
