This plant is not native to Britain but was introduced to parks and gardens. However, it can occasionally be found growing in woods and hedge banks. It has a ruff of deeply cut petals underneath a flower consisting of bright yellow sepals (no petals are present). It flowers January to March). This plant was pictured in woods near Odell, Bedfordshire, 27th January 2007.
