A hairless evergreen shrub (up to 1m tall). It has stems with few branches and leathery lanceolate leaves gathered towards the tops of shoots. Its green flowers are borne in clusters and are 8-12mm long with four lobes. It grows in woods (particularly beech woods) on calcareous soils. Picture taken at Felmersham, Bedfordshire - 27th January 2007.
