Clophill, Bedfordshire, 1939. But working class men still wore cloth caps and mufflers instead of ties men of all classes wore a hat or cap. In the 1930’s for men lounge suits and flannel trousers still wore formal attire. Trousers baggier and pullovers replaced waistcoats. By 1938 beards had almost disappeared. Hair worn short and often smoothed down with brilliantine.
