These gloves are made of leather. It was fashionable to use kid leather (soft leather made from the skin of a young goat).
In Victorian times it was fashionable for women to be covered
from head to toe. Skirts never rose above the ankle. Victorian ladies had many accessories: bags, fans, hats, mittens, muffs, parasols and gloves.

If a lady was wealthy, her maid would help the lady to put on her gloves by
using glove stretchers to stretch the glove. The maid would put the stretchers inside each finger of the glove. She then squeezed the bottom of the stretchers to open them out and stretch each glove finger. This would make it easier for the wealthy lady to pull her gloves on.
