This plant has pure pink flowers held in a distinctive pyramid spike. The flowers are adundant in nectar, attracting moths and butterflies. It is finely adapted for insect pollination. It is an upright hairless plant with pointed narrow leaves. It grows on chalk and limestone grasslands. It is one of the last of the downland orchids to flower in early/mid July and has a wide range of colour shadings. Picture taken 23rd July 2010 at Old Warden, Bedfordshire.
