The Old Library of Humboldt University. It was outside this building on May 10th 1933 that students and Nazi youth supporters under the direction of the SA removed 20,000 books from the library and burned them in the square. The books included works by Karl Marx, Heinrich heine and Thomas Mann. A memorial known as the Empty library can be found in the middle of the square.
