The enormous building on Wilhelmstrasse is now the German Finance Ministry but it has served a number of other purposes during its existence.
During the Nazi era this building was the Reichsluftfahrtministerium or Aviation ministry building and the HQ of Hermann Goring.
During the time of the GDR the buidling was in East Berlin and was known as the House of Ministries. In 1950-52 an extraordinary 18 metre long mural was created at the north end along Leipziger Straße. Created by the German painter and commercial artist Max Lingner, it depicts the Socialist ideal of contented East Germans facing a bright future as one big happy family.
