A very widespread tree or large bush, Goat or Sallow Willow, grows in forests, ditches and hedgerows. It grows up to 10 metres high, it can colonise forest clearings. The bark is smooth or wide cracked and grey and the twigs stout and smooth. It flowers before the leaves appear. This tree shows the male catkins. It flowers in May and the seeds ripen and drop in May. It has dark green rounded leaves. It is frost resistant and can live in poor soils.
