The bridge was designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. He described it as a goose in flight. The bridge was completed in 2004 and took 11 years to build. It cost 24 million dollars. It is 720 feet long and 23 feet wide. The bridge weighs 1600 tons, the same as 400 elephants. Although the bridge can hold 6000 people, it is impossible to fit that many people on it at once. The design was so complex it required creating new software to make the engineering calculations.
