The sycamore flowers have now died away and the fruits are developing. The sycamore tree can reach a height of 30-35 meters. It has distinctive 5-7 lobed leaves that are coarsely toothed. It can live for several hundred years. It is the last of the Maples to flower usually in April and May, producing small yellow green flowers on pendants. The fruit is winged and matures in late summer /early autumn enclosing a round seed. Picture taken Old Warden, Bedfordshire, June 10th 2006.
