This Beetle is widespread in England but uncommon in Scotland and Wales. It is a fairly uniform mid-brown coloured beetle with a dense covering of light brown hairs. The pronotum and elytra (wing cases) have a rounded appearence. The elytra is ridged. If disturbed the beetle with pay dead and drop from the leaf. The beetle is between 8-11mm. Click beetle larvae are thin yellow wireworms that eat the root systems of vegetable crops, grasses and other plants. Adults are formed in summer and remain suspended development until March of the next year. They lay eggs at the end of May or the beginning of June. The male dies shortly after mating, the female at the end of summer. Picture taken at Stevington Holy Well 28th May 2012.
