This spider is found across the Northern Hemisphere. It has an elongate cream-coloured body, up to 11 mm long, the females being longer than the males. It lies in a straight line posture when alarmed giving it good camouflage. Its colouring can be quite variable. It is found throughout the UK where it lives on low vegetation in damp areas, and feeds on flying insects which it catches in its web. It is able to walk on the surface of water, where it can move faster than on land. It can be seen from May to September. Picture taken at Felmersham on 30th May 2012.
