Red-tailed bumblebees are mostly coloured black, the hind-quarters are auburn red though. Male exemplars feature a yellow band on their chest. Their nests are built at the base of stone walls or similar. They are commonly seen in gardens and hedgerows.
Nests sizes vary from 100-200. Picture taken at Saltmore Farm, Hinxworth on 26th July 2011.
