This hob can be found in a kitchen and is used for heating and cooking food. It is has four areas that are heated by electricity...in this particular model the areas glow red when electricity is passing through the heating elelments. Notice also the red buttons which indicate which elements have been used. In many models these remain lit for a while after the power to the element has been turned off to indicate that there is residual heat.
