Xylota segnis is a common European species of hoverfly. The broad orange belt across the abdomen of this species is distinctive - but not always obvious under the wings when at rest. It can be found from April to November, peaking in June and July in woods and hedgerows. This one was found doing side to side rocking movements on a leaf a little like a dance.
