In late Autumn /winter, Ash can be easily distinguished by its black buds and in summer by its distinctive pinnate leaves. The black buds turn brown and flowers appear, usually in April, before the leaves and are wind pollinated. It produces both male flowers, female and bisexual flowers. Its fruits can be found in late summer / autumn. It is a very common tree that can reach a height of 30-32 meters. Here the leaves have formed and some of the female flowers are beginning to develop into seed pods. Picture taken at Old Warden Railway Cutting, Bedfordshire 23rd April 2018.
