This is a tree of lower ground. It can reach 25 - 30 metres, however its diameter is less than that of the Sycamore. It differs from Sycamore in having reddish brown buds pressed close to the twig and sharply pointed lobed leaves. The bright yellow/green flowers sit upright on the tree (pictured). They appear in April together with the leaves and are insect pollinated. The Norway Maple likes rich soils but is both shade and frost tolerant and can survive well in the fumes of cities. It is often planted in city streets. Picture taken 23rd April 2018 at Old Warden.
