Tombstone of a Cavalry Officer

This is the tombstone of Longinus Sdapeze, a junior officer in the cavalry regiment. He is wearing a leather tunic with diamond-shaped plates of metal sewn on. He carried a spear in his right hand. He died between AD 43-49 whilst the Roman army was stationed in Colchester. He was from the Regiment of Thracians (modern Bulgaria) from the district of Sardica (Sofia) and was 40 years old.
