Traitors' Gate stands below St Thomas's Tower (named after Thomas Becket). The tower was built by Henry III who had been Constable in 1162. Traitors' Gate was originally known as Water Gate, but was later changed when it was used as the landing for the Crown's enemies. All important prisoners entered the Tower through this gate, including at one time Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth 1st) in 1554. Picture taken 31st August 2006.
