For many years this street was the home of Associated Newspapers Ltd, publishers of the Evening News, the Daily Mail and the magazine Weekend. Where the street meets the Victoria Embankment is Carmelite House. The original Carmelite House (built in 1898) was a grand old building with an ornate facade it still stands on the corner of Tallis Street. The section of the building that faces the Victoria Embankment (pictured) was rebuilt in the early 1990s. The area used to be jammed with traffic delivering rolls of paper or picking up newspapers to distribute.
