The kitchen is set out as in Oliver Cromwell's time but the wing of the house dates back to 1215. In the 17th century tastes were becoming more adventurous with different foods from Europe starting to appear. Meat, game and vegetables were in abundance as was sugar (used for sweetbreads). A wide variety of fish was eaten including oysters. Mutton and black pudding was common fayre. Picture taken June 2007.
