Cromwell lived here from 1636-1647. The oak panelling dates from the mid 17th century and the room retains much of its character. The portrait by the door is Elizabeth Steward, Oliver's mother. She was born in this house which dates from medieval times. She lived to aged 89 and was constantly worried about Oliver, her only son's safety and moved to live with the family. Mother and son had a close relationship. Picture taken June 2007.
