The Golden Boy at Pye Corner was erected to mark the spot where the Great Fire of London ended. The fire had begun at Pudding Lane and ended at Pye Corner and many of the people of the city believed that this was highly significant and that the fire was a punishment from God for the sin of gluttony. They therefore set up this statue as a reminder that future gluttony might well be punished in the same way.
