The memorial to William Wallace is situated in the wall of st Bartholomew's Hospital, overlooking Smithfield. The area was formerly known as Smoothfield and was a scene of public execution for many centuries.
William Wallace was executed on 23rd August 1305. Wallace was the hero of the Scots war of independence.
