The title page to the Hagiographia. This image shows Henry VIII presenting Bibles to clerics on one side and laymen on the other. Below to the left and right are Thomas Cranmer Archbishop of Canterbury, and Thomas Cromwell distributing Bibles. This picture is telling us that the Pope no longer has control over religion in England and that Henry VIII is now supreme. It also shows that now even the poorest of people will have access to the Bible. Printed in 1539.
