Monument to Sam Sharpe who led the last and most significant slave uprising in Jamaica. In 1975, following independence, Sam Sharpe was made a National Hero. In his honour this square in Montigo Bay was renamed Sam Sharpe Square. Jamaica proclaimed Sharpe a National Hero with the posthumous title of Rt. Excellent Samuel Sharpe.
