This large, shallow, fluted bowl with two swing handles was probably intended to hold water for washing hands at table. The bowl has alternate fluted and flat radial panels, the leaf pattern on the flat panels closely resembling that on three of the spoons in the hoard. The central circular panel contains a rosette surrounded by a six-pointed star formed by two interlocking triangles. Such geometric patterns were often used by the Romans; the “Star of David” was not adopted as a Jewish symbol until after the middle ages.
